The Fairchild C-119 heavy transport aircraft powered by two radial engines was used by the US Air Force as the basis for the “flying gunship” conversion.These particular conversions were built in limited numbers for use against Vietcong support roads and troop concentrations during the Vietnam War.The AC-119K version, armed with 2 x 20mm cannons and 4 x 7.62mm machine guns, was very successful in night raids against trucks.Another version, the AC-119G type, differed in its lighter armament.These aircraft had 2 additional jet engines to assist in taking off from natural runways when loaded with ammunition.With the’
